how to build a website for free

Documentation and Links

Data was gathered using a variety of instruments and collated during the excursion. A short dscription of the data sets collected can be found below. Gathering of associated meta-data is still (October 2015) ongoing. Access to the data is provided via http and is password protected. Please contact Laurenz Thomsen, Angelo Pio Rossi or Vikram Unnithan for access credentials.

QGIS Server

This QGIS Server provides a variety of data projects (1,2,3,4, see links below) that have been collated and created by Andrea Pacific. The servers provides WMS services and any GIS client that can connect to WMS webservices can visualise these project. The easiest is to use QGIS desktop software.

If you are a Windows users, QGIS is a one click install process. If you are a Mac users, install QGIS involves two additional steps (assuming you have Lion or greater MacOS)
Step 1 - Install GDAL, Step 2 - Python Library and Step 3 - Install QGIS
Here is a detailed explanation of how to use QGIS desktop to connect to WMS services.

Cesium Visualisation

Cesium provides easy 3d dynamic visualisation options with excellent terrain data, options to link to and incorporate WMS services. It could also be  used for things such as "mission" planning etc. Cesium / NASA WorldWind are likely to replace Google Earth api's. Cesium documentation and some excellent demos arre found here.

Leaflet - Slippery Maps

Leaflet maps are designed to be quick, easy and beautiful interfaces to your data. They are java script based and have the advantage that they can be linked to kml, gpx or even WMS services.

Photo Galleries

Of the vast number of photo gallery software available, this website is using the very simple php-based gallery
which essentially converts a directory accessible on the web to a photo gallery.
The photo galleries can be accessed from this link.

Liz Maps Client & Server

LizMaps is the webmap client opensource solution for a QGIS server. It has a clean neat interface and provides options to display  vector and raster data. It can also be used as a WMS server.
